Ministry of Lectors

“The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I may know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.”

— Isaiah 50:4

Serving as a Lector

When you answer the call to be a minister of the word or Lector (one who proclaims the Bible readings to the assembled faith community), you enter a deeper relationship with the word of God as revealed in sacred scripture. You take upon yourself the duty and privilege of bringing the printed word to life – making it flesh, so to speak. Our ministry, as a Lector gives voice to God’s healing and strengthening word as it goes forth, achieving the purpose for which God sent it. In every sense, you become a prophet – one who speaks for God. If you share the passion to want to know more about God’s word and want to share your time and talent of “speaking” God’s word, please consider becoming a Lector!

A lector may serve at any one of Nativity’s masses:

Saturday 5:00pm, Sunday 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:30am, 11:00am (Spanish), 12:30 pm, 5:00pm.

Lectors may also serve during special religious celebrations, i.e. Lent, Tridium, Easter and Holy Days of Obligations and at other masses, as needed.

What are the rewards of becoming a Lector?

Our Ministry offers a workbook of readings for the current liturgical year to assist with preparation, training, and advance monthly schedules sent via e-mail. Orientation and training is conducted with each new Lector before their first scheduled reading.

What are the requirements?

Adults from the age of 18 having already received the sacrament of Confirmation, must be a parishioner of Nativity Catholic Church, and a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church (practices their faith regularly, i.e. attends Sunday Mass, Holy Days of Obligations, and if married, must have been married in the Catholic Church).
